Plastic tags are an affordable, semi-permanent solution for identifying and tracking equipment, material, and other assets. Available in a variety of sizes, shapes, and colors, plastic tags are durable, waterproof, tear-proof, and can be manufactured blank or engraved to meet your specifications.
Advantages of Using Plastic Tags
The durability of plastic tags makes them suitable for many industrial applications, including identification labels for machinery, control panels, cables wiring, and more. Blank plastic tags can be marked by the Duraprint® process, rotary engraving, or laser engraving for identifying and tracking assets easily. Laser engraving reveals the color beneath the first color layer, providing excellent contrast and readability of your text or design.
Plastic I.D. tags are available in thicknesses from 0.0625 inches to 0.125 inches and easily mounted with pre-drilled holes or industrial-strength, self-adhesive tape. Plastic tags have excellent resistance to harsh chemicals, abrasion, extreme temperatures, and UV light, making them suitable for indoor or outdoor use. The insulating properties of plastic also enable plastic tags to be used in electrical applications safely.
Endless Customization Options for Plastic Tags
Plastic tags offer nearly endless customization options and can be designed and manufactured to meet the needs of virtually any application. Custom blank plastic tags can be produced in a variety of colors, plastic types, and thicknesses, and they can be marked through several processes.
Types of Plastic
Plastic tags are manufactured from several types of plastics, depending on the required specifications.
ABS
Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) is often used for indoor applications where harsh environmental conditions are not a factor. ABS plastic tags are resistant to impacts and corrosive chemicals, which makes them ideal for many industrial applications. In addition to being one of the most affordable plastics, ABS is also easily recycled.
Phenolic
Phenolic Plastic is used in a large percentage of molded plastic products and is used almost exclusively for industrial plastic applications. Phenolic plastic can be molded into any shape or size, resists abrasion and impact well, and withstands a wide range of temperatures and humidity.
Acrylic
Acrylic plastic, also known as plexiglass, is a transparent material similar to glass, but it’s lighter and provides better transparency than glass of the same thickness. Acrylic is more impact resistant than glass and is easier to fabricate and form.
Polycarbonate
Polycarbonates are a type of thermoplastic polymer that contains carbonate groups in their chemical structures. Unlike most thermoplastics, polycarbonates are extremely strong and durable, highly resistant to cracking or breaking. Some polycarbonates are also transparent.
Marking Processes
Plastic tags can be customized through the use of engraving or etching.
Engraving
Engraving is one of the most common processes used for marking custom plastic tags. Most engraved plastic tags are front engraved, removing the top layer of color and leaving the contrasting core color exposed. Front engraved plastic tags offer excellent readability and can be manufactured with a variety of color combinations.
Reverse engraved plastic tags are another option. This process utilizes a transparent top layer, and the back layer is engraved then filled with paint. The process creates an engraved plastic tag with a face that is weather durable, easily cleaned, designed using multiple colors.
Etching
Etching is a chemical process that leaves a design or text on a blank plastic tag. Etched plastic tags have the required data permanently marked on the surface through a chemical process.
